WADS' first production of the year was Come On, Jeeves, a comedy co-written by Guy Bolton and PG Wodehouse. It was written in 1952 and toured the English provinces in the summer of 1954. Wodehouse adapted the play into the novel Ring for Jeeves, which was first published in April 1953, a year before the play reached production.

The summer show was The Government Inspector (or, A Little Local Difficulty), adapted by Philip Goulding from Nikolai Gogol's classic comedy. We have fond memories of one of Philip Goulding’s other adaptations, The Titfield Thunderbolt in 2007. Philip pointed out that “in fact, yours was the first amateur production, I believe. The count is now 98. So thanks for starting the ball rolling”.
